Generic drug

Medications created to be the same as an existing approved brand-name drug in dosage form, safety, strength, route of administration, quality, and performance characteristics. They are typically sold at lower prices compared to their brand-name counterparts because they do not have to repeat the costly clinical trials that were required for the brand-name drugs. Generic drugs must meet the same standards of quality and performance as brand-name drugs and are approved by regulatory agencies like the FDA in the United States.
